Who is Red Tool House?
Red Toolhouse Lumber Company and Farm is a small family effort located in Southern West Virginia. We are tucked away on 100 rural acres. At one time the property was a fully functional farm with pasture land and large gardens nestled on the mountain benches.
When we purchased the land in 2000, it was in a terrible state of disrepair. The local community had used the abandoned property for years as the neighborhood dump and party spot. Our first and most arduous task was clearing the land of dilapidated buildings, junked appliances, mountains of tires, and mounds of raw garbage. We felt, at times, that this project was too much for us and we would never get it all cleared.
Twenty years later, the property has been cleared of all the debris and is slowly evolving back into a working farm (we use this term very loosely). Occasionally, after a heavy rain, I may find an unearthed appliance, or tire, or some other form of junk lying in one of the streams. I am baffled by the recent revealing of these things and often wonder if they may have fallen from the sky instead of being washed down from some small tributary.
The McClung family consists of my wife Kelly, our two boys, and myself (Troy). We are excited to be a part of God’s creation and seek everyday to honor him and to live in the center of his will, whatever that may be. We feel blessed to have been placed in stewardship of this land, his creation, and look forward to making it into something better than we found it.
We hope you will take some time to follow along with us as we learn to work the land that we have been given.
